Obama Riverside
This past election season, we witnessed history in the Riverside area. Residents of various backgrounds and ideologies came together to support the most progressive candidate the nation has seen in many years. That candidate – Barack Obama -- is now our President!
The Obama Riverside grassroots movement brought together new activists and provided an energy and sense of community not often seen in the area.
Our work continues.
The Obama campaign laid a blueprint for community activism using grassroots organizing and technology to reach the masses. These tools are still available to us. We will use them to take action in our community.
So many Riverside area residents got involved FOR THE FIRST TIME because of the message of candidate--and now President--Obama. A message based on the following:
1.
Unity: President Obama has often stated “what unites us is greater than what divides us.” He symbolizes a shift from the divisive rhetoric of the past. Obama Riverside will continue to move away from “us versus them” and concentrate instead on solutions to our area’s challenges.
2.
Progressive Agenda: President Obama has stressed that during our current economic crisis, business as usual will not do. He encourages out-of-the-box thinking. There is a saying “Go Big…or Go Home!” The administration is proposing a massive effort to jolt our economy into positive action and help American families remain solvent.
3.
Individual Responsibility: President Obama is often quoted as saying “We are the ones we have been waiting for.” We recognize that government alone cannot solve all of our problems and there needs to be a fundamental shift in our thinking and behavior.
These ideals brought together Riverside area residents to support Barack Obama.
We will continue this historic movement!
The choice is clear…we can sit around bemoaning current conditions, or we can take action to make our families and communities stronger! Our focus for the coming year will be identifying resources and providing support for the following groups:
1.
Students
2.
Homeless Families
3.
Displaced Workers
4.
Senior Citizens
The areas we will focus on: Health Care, Education, and Energy.
YOU will decide what your involvement will be, which group you will work with, and how much time you can commit. This is an activist group!
